NFT Poster Boys: The Bored Ape Club

Date:

NFTs exploded in 2021 and have become commonplace today when referring to digital arts of any sort. Ideally, 2021 could unofficially be tagged the year of the NFTs with a lot of massive projects gaining worldwide adoption and mainstream use.

Some of the most notable projects launched in 2021 include the Cryptopunks, Doodle, Bored Apes, as well as many others. While CryptoPunks was created in 2017 and can be tagged “The originals” of the NFT space, The Bored Ape Yacht Club created in April 2021 undeniably has the most mainstream appeal and recognition of the NFT space.

Home Of The Apes

The Bored Ape Yacht Club collection otherwise written as BAYC includes an NFT art collection of 10,000 Bored Ape with existence on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club project was brought to life by Yuga labs, a team of 4 friends that tried to make something special for the NFT space.

When the Bored Ape Club launched, it took 12 hours to sell out at a launch price of $190. Owning a Bored Ape includes having access to Yacht Club membership as well as other members-only benefits.

The art has had tremendous growth from its launch date 10 months ago from a $190 initial launch rate to costing $300,000 on average in today’s market.

On September 10, a public auction sale closed at $24 Million in revenue after 101 Bored Apes were sold at auction.

One mystery about the Bored Ape Brand is that up until today, no one knows the real identity of the creators. They are however referred to by aliases which include Garamel, Gordon Goner, Emperor Tomato Ketchup and No Sass.

Bored Ape Global Acclaims

The Bored Ape has had a lot of global accomplishments that has made it mainstream and the poster boy representation of what NFTs are in general.

For example, it is the first NFT to feature on the cover page for Rolling Stones.

It also got a brand deal with Adidas in early December giving it more global exposure as more established brands try to move into the NFT space.

The BAYC has also had a lot of high influence ownership with celebrities like Eminem, Jimmy Fallon, Steph Curry, Snoop Dogg all being members of the exclusive Ape club.

End Thoughts

The success of the BAYC project while being anonymous shows the untold opportunities the NFT culture can afford anyone from anywhere in the world. It depicts the equal identity that decentralization affords the common man. It is one sure way for creatives to sell their arts, prevent fake resells and maintain royalties for their work for life.

We believe that the NFT run has come to stay. It was one of the most-used words in 2021 according to the Collins dictionary and is carrying on that momentum heavily into 2022. Notable among its unique nature was the easy partici[ation of just anyone from teenagers, youths and even the old. NFTs brought an equal open playing ground for everyone which is at the heart of what Web3 and decentralization offer, power to the people.
