For the launch of Healing Arts New York—a city-wide effort produced by the organisation Culturunners that aims to explore how the arts can help forge a new relationship with health, care, and well-being—New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is teaming up with the World Health Organization’s Arts and Health Program to host a symposium on Sunday, 19 September.

Speakers and panelists include the Met’s director Max Hollein, the World Health Organization director Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the opera singer Renée Fleming—who will also be teaching a guided exercise in healing breath—the artist Yazmany Arboleda, the director of the National Black Theatre Jonathan McCrory, the director of New York University’s drama therapy program Nisha Sajnani, the United Kingdom’s former minister of culture and digital Ed Vaizey, and more. A full list, as well as a streaming link, can be found on the museum’s website.

A number of events will follow the symposium over the next two months as part of Healing Arts New York, such as artist commissions, research programmes, discussions with field leaders across the arts and health care communities, and film premieres. To close the programme, the Met will be hosting another all-day conference on Sunday, 14 November, taking place both in person and online. A full list of events is on Culturunners’s website.
